Middlefield Road Business Development
After years of community engagement, the Middlefield Road Improvement Project has been approved! The selected design includes a 3-lane roadway, parallel parking, bicycle lanes, 12-foot wide sidewalks, trees, and bulb-outs at all intersections. The new streetscape will also provide space for more public amenities, such as trash cans, benches, street lights, crosswalks, public art, and more.
Construction of the new corridor is estimated to begin as soon as 2019, and is anticipated to have some impacts on Middlefield Road businesses. In order to provide businesses with the necessary tools and resources to thrive during and after construction, the County of San Mateo, in partnership with the San Mateo County Small Business Development Center and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the Bay Area, have established the Middlefield Road Business Development Pilot Program. The program will offer services, including:
- Enhancing communication and marketing in order to attract new customers;
- Direct legal services regarding employment law and leases;
- Tips on how to develop a business plan;
- Inventory management and much more!
The County of San Mateo and our partners are excited to offer these services to selected businesses for free! To be selected to participate in this program, you must submit a program application no later than Wednesday, May 31, 2017. A limited amount of businesses will be selected for the pilot program, so please make sure to complete the application. Selected businesses will be notified no later than Friday, June 16, 2017.
We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity as we prepare for future changes along Middlefield Road. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
